Technical innovation set for new master plan by Swanke Hayden Connell Architects
International architecture practice Swanke Hayden Connell Architects (SHCA) has unveiled its master plan for the mixed-use scheme at the Shekou Network Valley in Shenzen City in Guangdong Province, China. The master plan design follows the natural pathway flowing between the Danan Mountain range in the west, through the Lizhi Park to the waterway of Shenzen Bay in the east.
The 125,288 sq m design concept will function as an innovation cluster for high tech, Internet and web 2.0 companies. The master plan design incorporates seven buildings over three separate plots of land with individual building heights ranging from 22m to 50m. The buildings will provide office and retail space along with public open spaces.
It has been designed with strict sustainable design principles, inclusive of high performance façade and glazing systems, pre-heating/cooling air intake systems for HVAC, heat recovery, solar photo voltaic panels, and wind turbines and rainwater collection. Central atria are designed to maximize natural lighting and to allow cross ventilation throughout the buildings.
Vehicle routes and drop-offs have been located outside the buildings to ensure a vehicle free central pedestrian route connecting all the buildings. A secondary pathway on the second level allows tenants to easily interchange between each of the buildings.
While each plot within the master plan uses the same building typology, it also keeps its unique identity with different façade expressions and in its general overall appearance.
The project was designed to follow companies’ new and different patterns of thinking and their corporate and working culture while suiting their demands for collaboration and greater flexibility.
Steve Brown of SHCA says: “The design encourages a 'connection idea' both internally and externally. Internally, flexible and multifunctional interaction and meeting spaces are designed to encourage the sharing of knowledge. Externally, the design encourages a connected social and commercial environment with the wider community of Shekou,” he adds. |
